Christianity as Religion

As Christians, thinking of Christianity as a one religion among many may seem at first to undermine its central message concerning salvation. No worries—we are not trying to do that. At the same time, wouldn’t it be all useful to ask questions such as: Is there no salvation at all for those who are not Christian? Does the Lord work in any way with people outside our faith? Interestingly, Scripture suggests that there were individuals who, while not belonging to the chosen people, nevertheless lived under the Lord’s providence. One example is Melchizedek in Genesis 14. Technically speaking, he stood outside the inner circle of Israel, yet he is presented in a remarkably positive light. How do we make some good sense of these?
