Servicing ABU 6501-C3
This is an ABU 6501-C3 (the 01 means it's left handed) with a level wind. The reel had been a bit neglected, or well used if you like. It had a lot of dried matter inside, which was sticking it together. Please note when you see me tapping it I am using a soft plastic handle which will not damage anything if used carefully, better than trying to prise it with anything. Once separated all parts where left in an ultrasonic cleaning machine, then scrubbed with a stiff brush to fully clean everything. Taking time over this is always the best policy to get a good finished job. When assembling these reels take great care not to cross thread the star drag and the handle nut, it is very easy to cross the nut and ruins the main shaft.
