My First Sail on the New Boat: Sailing her Home Through Strong Winds - Ep. 2 [EN]

This is it — a return to the very beginning. In this video, I take you back to 10 October 2020, to the very first sail on my new Grinde. Long before ocean crossings, long before solo passages — back to the moment it all started. I travel to Friesland, in The Netherlands, to pick her up. The previous owner takes the time to walk me through the boat, explaining how everything works: the quirks of the rigging, the electrical system, the character of the Beta Marine engine, and all the little details only an owner truly knows. Then, together with my good friend Gwen, I sail her all the way back to my home marina in Muiderzand — unaware yet of how far this boat and I would eventually go together. The water is that deep, dark green typical of the IJsselmeer, the wind is strong and gusty, and honestly… I’m a bit nervous. It’s been a while since I last sailed a boat single-handed. Do I still remember how everything works? Reefing, trimming, docking – it all comes rushing back. Join us for this exciting, sometimes tense maiden voyage: laughing, a few small mistakes, beautiful scenery and the pure joy of finally having my own boat. Now I can start the preparations of my circumnavigation. See next videos. 💙 Love my videos?
