Kensai-2 Cemetery Walk 4k, Almaty, Kazakhstan

One of the most unique walks of mine - through Kensai-2 cemetery of Almaty. Look at this walk at this angle: many have left Kazakhstan. It is their chance to see, probably, how their ancestors tombstones look nowadays and to honor their families and passed members of the family. If you find your family - plz text me with your stories, I am really excited to hear your family history. "Kensai" in Kazakh means "large gorge". The name in Russian sounds like "Wide gap" ("gap" was what the Cossack settlers called gorges). The cemetery is located in the eastern part of Almaty (9 km from the city center) near the Bazarbayev-Ormanov crossing, on top of a mountain from which the entire city can be seen at a glance. The Kensai cemetery is Muslim. The necropolis is considered elite – it is unlikely that a mere mortal could be buried there. The tombs and mausoleums here are truly stunning and some just jaw-dropping. Many artists and scientists are buried here as well as oligarchy representatives. Batyrkhan Shukenov (Batyr) is a well-known singer of A-studio and later solo-singer of Kazakhstan. In the last years of his life he lived in Moscow. His contribution to Kazakh music is difficult to overestimate and he was known and loved by everyone in the country. Please add the time points if someone significant is missed.
