For many years, the 7 carried the crown for BMW as its undisputed champion of sumptuous luxury. But now, nearly 50 years later, this seventh-generation 7 Series sedan shares the top rung of the BMW lineup with the X7 SUV.  I booked the BMW 7 Series as my chariot of choice for a small road trip I had planned from Toronto to Detroit.
