How Sergeant Cosens and 4 Men Cleared Three Fortified German Farmhouses
On February 26, 1945, Sergeant Aubrey Cosens of the Queen's Own Rifles of Canada led a near-solo assault on fortified farmhouses in Mooshof, Germany, during Operation Blockbuster. Cosens was killed by a sniper shortly after clearing the position, and was posthumously awarded the Victoria Cross. German Fallschirmjäger unit records from the 1st Fallschirmjäger Army corroborate and extend the Canadian account, documenting the assault from the perspective of the defending force.
