Scouts are fed by their feet, as they say.” Maxim, nicknamed “Eshka,” is an officer of the 80th Galician Brigade. He first entered service in 2014: then he was performing tasks in the area of ​​the Donetsk airport. When the full-scale Russian invasion began in 2022, he immediately packed up and went to the nearest recruitment center. “By lunchtime on February 24, I had already completed all my affairs, packed up and left. There were no questions about which unit to join — I made my choice back in 2014.” As part of the reconnaissance platoon, Maxim, together with his comrades, participated in the defense of the Ukrainian South. Then he began to record everything that was happening around him on his phone camera. “I took pictures of myself, sometimes filmed our work. And I made notes every day, recording everything that happened to me. It was important to remember everything correctly. During hostilities, the perception of time is distorted and you can later, remembering all this, confuse something. Another reason why I filmed: so that my children could see that everything is fine with me, I am cheerful, there is nothing to be sad about. It was primarily for a small family of four people.” In Maksym’s archive there are shots from the Mykolaiv region, Kharkiv region and Donbas. Captured enemy equipment: from an anti-aircraft gun pulled by a Ukrainian farmer’s tractor to a tank captured in the Kharkiv region, which will then work against its former owners for a long time as part of the 80s. But among everything filmed, the most important are definitely the people. “As for the people, many of them who are here on the video are, unfortunately, no longer there. Therefore, these materials are a good way to remember them, to show what they were, to show what they did. They brought great benefit to this country, they defended it until the last.
