I Found the House I Wanted… But It Was Gone Before I Could Offer

This week I viewed a rural cottage near Tarland that came closer than almost anything I’ve seen so far. It had the setting, garden, outbuildings, workshop potential, dog walks and peaceful feel I’ve been searching for — but it was also right at the top end of my budget. I put in my note of interest and was ready to offer, but before a closing date was set the property went under offer significantly over the offers-over price. So this episode changed slightly. It became less about one house, and more about affordability, competition, and whether I can realistically buy the kind of rural home I’m drawn to in the areas I love: Tarland, Deeside, Ballindalloch, Grantown-on-Spey and the Moray Coast. I’m disappointed, but I’m also learning. The right compromise may have to be location, size, garden, or condition — but it cannot be financial panic.
