In today's video, I traveled to the village of Pracupá, in the municipality of Tucano, Bahia, a community known as the Leather Capital of Bahia. There I met Mr. Babão, one of the oldest artisans in the region. In his small workshop, time seems to have stood still: there are no modern machines, computers, or sophisticated equipment. The entire process of making traditional leather hats is done manually, preserving techniques learned from his father many years ago. During our conversation, Mr. Babão recounted how he began in this craft at a young age, recalled the teachings he received from his family, and explained how working with leather was responsible for supporting his home and raising his children, who today also follow the tradition. In addition to his life story, he showed each stage of the leather hat making process, revealing a work rich in detail, patience, and skill, representing the culture and identity of the Bahian hinterland.
