Our Masjid Ep-33 (Brick Lane Jamme Masjid, Brick Lane Mosque)

The Brick Lane Jamme Masjid primarily serves as a spiritual hub for Muslims both far and near. Located in the heart of Tower Hamlets, home to many diverse ethnic communities and faiths, the mosque plays a key role in bridging communities, strengthening inter faith understanding and seeks to present Islam to the wider society – providing tours, study circles, conferences and so on. The Brick Lane Jamme Masjid, as a building, has a rich history in religiously serving its community from the mid eighteenth century. Built in 1743 as a French Protestant Church to cater to the needs of fleeing Huguenot refugees from France who had settled in and around Spitalfields, it later became a Synagogue in 1898 to serve the increasing number of Jews in East London, who too had fled from parts of Europe from religious prosecution and settled around Spitalfields. The building came to be known as the Great Synagogue. In 1976 the building was acquired by Muslims of Bangladeshi origin due to the Jewish community moving to North London. IQRA Bangla aims to give a positive input to British society and uplift the standards of deprived and under privileged pockets of the community. The Channel hopes to be a means of mutual dialogue between societies and people of different faiths and aim to remove any misconceptions about Islam and Muslims in Briton and Europe and assist communities to be good citizens of the country. IQRA Bangla is an Educational wing of Al-Khair which also operates a Primary & Secondary School for Boys and Girls in the UK and oversees, teaching the National Curriculum Education within an Islamic framework. Al-Khair Foundation is an International relief and humanitarian organisation, working and assisting victims of world disasters without any discrimination of religion, language, gender or ethnic background.
