That it smudges with markers, curls like a taco with watercolors, and looks all specky and weird with colored pencils. Well, today I'm going to save you from that frustration, because in this video I'll teach you how to choose the right paper for each material, without complicating things and without you having to be an expert. Here you'll see 7 different types of paper, and I'm going to explain in a super clear and "teacher but fun" way which one is best for you depending on what you're drawing: ✅ Pencil (graphite) ✅ Colored pencils ✅ Water-based markers (like Ohuhu) ✅ Alcohol markers (like Copic) ✅ Posca (acrylics) ✅ Watercolor ✅ Mixed media The most important thing you're going to learn is this: There's no such thing as the perfect paper for everything… there's only the perfect paper for your medium. Because using the wrong paper is like wearing heels to play soccer: you can… but you'll suffer. In this video, I'll explain what really matters when buying a sketchbook or notebook: 📌 gsm (grams per square meter) to know if it's thin or thick 📌 texture (smooth or rough) so your drawing looks clean 📌 absorbency so it doesn't soak up ink or water 📌 whether it's acid-free so your drawing doesn't yellow over time 📌 whether it's cotton or cellulose to know which is better 📌 what bleed-through is (when the ink bleeds through) 📌 and what feathering is (when the lines spread out like little trees) I'll also explain the most common formats you see in stores: 📘 sketchbook / spiral notebook 📄 loose sheet 📌 glued or stapled pad 🎨 watercolor pad 📦 cardstock / vellum and which one is best for you depending on whether you want to practice or create a drawing final, or if you want to frame it or give it as a gift. And so you're not left wondering, at the end I'll give you a super useful list with paper recommendations by brand and gsm, depending on the technique you use, so the next time you see a sketchbook you'll say: "this one's good... this one's not." If you like to draw and want your results to look more professional, this video will help you a lot, because many times the problem isn't your talent... it's that you're using the wrong material. Comment below what paper you use, which ones have let you down, and what material you'd like me to try next, because here we're Team Gomitos and we all help each other out.
