A year ago, I was there at the same time, in a heat wave of 38 degrees Celsius, and I was discussing how much easier it was to bear there than in Burgas. And today, it's over 30 degrees Celsius in both cities. The drive took about three hours. We find parking and go for a walk. It's primarily a pedestrian street; everything is the same, nothing has changed. Renovation of some old buildings is still ongoing. Souvenir shops, stalls, restaurants, and so on. In the center, I came across a large old building, only the façade remains, and apparently they plan to preserve it. It certainly doesn't look very appealing, especially considering that behind this old façade there's likely a new building. We check into our apartment at three o'clock. It's a new residential building, a small studio with everything we need, and a view of an old, dilapidated building. Our apartment is new, apparently not long in the rental, and the building itself is newly built. After unpacking our bags, we head to our familiar restaurant (not our favorite, but it's usually nearby). We have lunch for 40 euros, noting the decline in service quality and arguing that perhaps the more resourceful travelers are making money at the resorts at this point. After lunch, I return home to Burgas and, a few days later, head back to Plovdiv. I leave very early, determined to have breakfast in the Old Town Center rather than on the road. The breakfast was truly magnificent, and the calorie count was more than enough for the lunch that awaited us in Burgas.
