We all know that cows are considered sacred animals in India and their meat is strictly forbidden to eat. But did you know that the same was true in Rus' until the 18th century? "On Saturday, May 10 (1606), on the third day of his wedding (to Marina Mniszech, the daughter of a Polish voivode), the tsar ordered everything to be prepared in the kitchen in Polish style, including boiled and roast veal," wrote the German writer and eyewitness Konrad Bussow in his chronicles. It was precisely this unforgivable carelessness that helped the Moscow boyars overthrow False Dmitry I, who had been crowned with the help of Polish magnates. "When Russian cooks saw this and told everyone, they began to seriously doubt the Tsar, and the Russians began to say that he must be Polish, not Muscovite, because they don't eat veal," Konrad testified. In other words, eating veal was the last straw that broke the camel's back for the Russian people. Incidentally, this was confirmed by the Swedish diplomat P. Petreius, and later reflected by Karamzin in his "History of the Russian State," Vol. 11, Chapter 4. Did you know about this? What do you think? Perhaps historians have invented something and lied about something, and the truth is completely different? We decided to look into this in detail and found a wealth of documents that official historians, for some reason, modestly remain silent about. We'll also examine whether it's safe to eat veal and what kind of milk is safe to drink. Don't forget to give us a thumbs up if we've covered an important topic and watch to the end. In fact, in Rus', there was a long-standing ban on the killing and consumption of not only calves but also adult cows. And this ban did not arise from a biblical prohibition, as some historians try to explain. Although, of course, it's hard not to recall the expression from the Book of Isaiah, "He who slays an ox is the same as he who slays a man." Not killing or eating cow meat is an ancient, common Slavic principle, dating back to Vedic times. Historians are well aware of this. The direct ancestors of the Rus' people, the Scythians, who were referred to as Rus' or Slavs in many chronicles, also did without beef, and perhaps even without meat at all. Here's how the ambassador of the Byzantine Emperor Theodosius II (5th century AD, according to the official chronology) described a ceremonial reception in Scythia: "The embassy was solemnly greeted by a chorus of girls presenting bread and salt; the guests were treated to honey, kvass, and meatless dishes." Archaeologists also confirm that the Scythians were most likely not meat-eaters, but there is ample evidence of their agricultural lifestyle. Homer, Strabo, and Aeschylus unanimously describe the Scythians as the most just and hospitable of all mortal peoples, for whom "the fields themselves yield an abundance of means of subsistence." And not a word about meat-eating, despite the meticulous description of their daily life. The Greek historian Arian, already in the 2nd century AD, According to the official chronology, he wrote of the Scythians: "The local inhabitants formerly ate bread and farmed, lived in houses and had cities." Not a very familiar idea of supposedly wild nomads, is it? But the mysterious northern people of the Hyperboreans also abstained from meat, as Homer, Hesiod, and Herodotus attested: "They perfect themselves in justice, not eating meat, but subsisting on ancient fruits." Some historians believe they were one of the first Slavic peoples. Although, in fact, their roots are even more ancient. Can so many different sources, spread out over time, be wrong? What do you think? Share your opinion in the comments. But why, after all, was there a ban on beef, and especially veal? And this taboo was observed quite strictly in Rus' until the 18th century. This wasn't a sedition episode (the Sedition channel), it was an episode of the Awareness channel: Why didn't people eat beef in Rus' until the 18th century? Shocking facts that historians are silent about Saving humans and animals, saving a cat and a dog, and an earthquake in Turkey There's also the Awareness channel, and awareness is very useful!
