This Rare Spicer AANC7-14 PTO Was Leaking Oil Badly, Here's How I Fixed It

Can a rare Dana Spicer AANC7-14 PTO be rebuilt when there are almost no parts or information available online? That’s exactly what we’re about to find out on this 1959 Chevy Viking dump truck project. Power Take Off. In this video, we tackle a major transmission leak coming from the side-mounted Spicer ANC7-14 PTO attached to the legendary GM SM420 transmission. The leak was so severe the gearbox was nearly empty of oil, meaning we could not safely drive the truck until this PTO rebuild and transmission repair were completed. The job starts underneath the vintage Chevy dump truck, removing decades of grease-covered linkage, PTO shafts, mounting hardware, and the entire PTO assembly while laying in the gravel. Once removed, we completely tear down the Dana Spicer PTO, inspect the gears, shafts, detents, needle bearings, seals, and internal components, and determine exactly why the unit was leaking gear oil. Because rebuild kits for this PTO are nearly impossible to find, every seal and gasket had to be individually measured and sourced manually. We fabricate a custom PTO gasket with the correct thickness for proper PTO gear lash, install new seals, repair the shifting shaft leak, adapt a modern seal design, install a Welch plug to stop a major oil leak, and completely reassemble the PTO step by step. This was one of the biggest repairs so far on this old dump truck project and a huge step toward making this classic Chevrolet Viking fully usable again. We still have future repairs ahead including the leaking hydraulic pump, clutch issues, transmission input bearing noise, brakes, and more, but fixing this PTO leak was absolutely critical.
