What is a method? Why think methodically? Why is it important to study and practice philosophical methods? How do philosophical methods work? How do philosophical methods develop? What is a method? A method, in its broadest sense, is a conscious approach to one's thinking and cognition. It is a reflective approach to thinking and cognition that allows for critical, reasoned, and demonstrative thinking. Simply put, methodical thinking is a culture of thinking. With the development of thinking practices and the rise of philosophical schools, the main methods of philosophical cognition emerged. • The dialectical method. • The analytical method in its various versions (for example, the method of logical analysis of language). • The transcendental method. • The phenomenological method. • The hermeneutic method. I have named the main methods of thinking, but there are many more. There are many sub-methods and auxiliary methods in various areas of thinking. Already in Plato, we encounter dozens of methods interconnected hierarchically. In this video, in addition to introductory topics, we will discuss the transcendental method and its development. We will also compare the methodological approaches of Edmund Husserl and Hans-Georg Gadamer. In the next video, we will discuss the methods of phenomenology and how phenomenological methodology works.
