'70년 숙원' 광주 평동 포사격장 폐쇄 검토

The Pyeongdong Artillery Firing Range in Gwangju, which has been in operation for over 70 years since the Korean War, appears set to be closed. According to the office of Democratic Party lawmaker Park Kyun-taek and other sources, it has been confirmed that military authorities recently reviewed the closure of the firing range and decided to formally report the decision to the Ministry of National Defense. The Pyeongdong Artillery Firing Range is a prime example of a facility that has continuously infringed upon residents' living rights due to noise and the risk of stray bullets, despite its low utilization rate of around 20 days of annual use. Once the closure process begins in earnest, the existing firing range functions are scheduled to be integrated and relocated to locations such as the Sangmudae Military Base in Jangseong.
