Tundra Steering Rack Replacement 2000-2006

Here's the situation, replacing the leaky steering rack on a first generation Toyota Tundra (2006). Parts: 1 new or remanufactured steering rack. 2 If you haven't replaced your bushing recently you may as well do that now Safety: You'll be removing the front wheels and working under the truck, so you need to keep it from falling on you and rolling. set the parking brake, and make sure the jack stands are very secure. I had a backup set of jack stands in place as well. Tools used: siphon pump to remove the old power steering fluid from reservoir 4 jack stands 1 hydraulic jack 17mm wrench for removing the hydraulic lines 24mm wrench for removing the jam nuts 19mm socket for removing the castle nuts, one bolt in center of rack, and the two bolts holding the bushing in place 22mm socket and wrench for removing bolt at bottom of the rack 12mm socket to remove the bolt holding the steering rack to the steering column and the bolt holding the hoses to the rack Deadblow hammer and punch to free steering column from rack Oh yeah and make sure you center your new rack before attaching it to the steering column...ask me how I know.
