INEC Makes Shocking 2027 Move X Mock Presidential Election X Peter Obi Cries Out In Berlin.
BREAKING: Fresh developments ahead of the 2027 general election have sparked nationwide reactions after the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) announced plans to independently audit its electoral technology systems and conduct a mock presidential election before Nigerians head to the polls. According to INEC Chairman, Prof. Joash Amupitan, SAN, the proposed audit and simulated presidential election are aimed at preventing a repeat of the technical failures that affected the INEC Result Viewing Portal (IReV) during the controversial 2023 presidential election. The Commission said it wants to thoroughly test its digital infrastructure, cybersecurity systems, software resilience, disaster recovery mechanisms, communication protocols, BVAS operations, and result management architecture before the 2027 elections. INEC admitted that the 2023 IReV glitches damaged public confidence in Nigeria's electoral process and stressed that the Commission is determined to restore trust through improved technology, stronger cybersecurity, independent system audits, and rigorous testing of every aspect of its election management process. Although the proposed audit and mock presidential poll were not originally captured in the Commission's budget, INEC said it is exploring every possible option to implement the initiative because of its importance to electoral credibility and transparency. Meanwhile, the United Kingdom has reaffirmed its commitment to supporting Nigeria's democratic process. British High Commissioner Dr. Richard Montgomery disclosed that the UK Government is closely monitoring preparations for the 2027 general election and will continue working with INEC to strengthen election management, democratic institutions, transparency, electoral technology, and public confidence ahead of the polls. In another major political development, the presidential candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), Peter Obi, has alleged that there was a plot to assassinate him during his planned humanitarian visit to Benue State in April 2025. Speaking at a high-level policy roundtable in Berlin, Germany, Obi claimed he cancelled the trip after warnings from the Benue State Government and insisted that events surrounding the proposed visit convinced him there was a genuine threat to his life. Obi also questioned why his visit generated such tension, maintaining that humanitarian activities should never become political. His remarks have generated fresh reactions across Nigeria as supporters and critics continue to debate political security, democratic freedoms, opposition rights, governance, and preparations ahead of the 2027 presidential election. As Nigeria moves closer to another crucial general election, the latest developments surrounding INEC's technological reforms, international election monitoring, cybersecurity improvements, and Peter Obi's latest allegations have once again placed the country's democracy, electoral integrity, political security, and public confidence at the centre of national and international attention.
