We have to mention Lin Jinkun's father. Before the opening of the Alishan Highway, the only way to get to Fenchihu was to rely on the Alishan Forest Railway. In the early days when Alishan was still logging, each train would be full of loggers and tourists. Since Fenchihu was a relay station, when the train arrived at Fenchihu, the steam locomotive needed to add coal and water to replenish fuel, and would rest for 30 minutes before continuing. Lin Jinkun's father found that when the train arrived at Fenchihu, the passengers on the train were hungry. After a long journey, the passengers would buy some food. Lin Jinkun's father had an idea and decided to sell bento in his own mountaineering canteen. As a result, the reputation of Fenchihu bento gradually spread throughout Taiwan, and its significance was similar to that of Fulong bento. Fenchihu can be said to be the most prosperous mountain street in early Taiwan. Houses are built on the hillside, and there is an old street about 500 meters long below the train station. In the early years, there was no street name, and locals simply called it "Jie Zai". It was the first place where merchants from Fenqihu gathered. Since Fenchihu is a relay station, trains of the Alishan Forest Railway would wait here. There were many loggers and tourists, and everyone would buy food here. In addition to the Fenchihu bento just mentioned, residents from nearby tribes such as Shizhao, Taihe, and Ruili came to Fenchihu to do business and sell things. It used to be very crowded and lively here. After the opening of the Alishan Highway in 1982, transportation became more convenient as people no longer had to take the Forest Railway train through Fenchihu. As a result, the popularity of Fenchihu declined and the street gradually became desolate and depressed. Until the recent years when tourism became popular and Fenchihu has rich natural landscapes, it has once again become an important base around Alishan. 【Starting from the Start】 If you want to walk the Fenrui Trail, you can go up the stairs of the Cape of Good Hope Coffee opposite the bus station. The total length is about 3 kilometers and it takes about 40-50 minutes to complete the trail. The trail is surrounded by cedar and bamboo forests, and it is easy and comfortable to walk on.
