In Conversation: Patrick Marlborough and Miriam Webster on Fiction

Join us as our Toolkits: Fiction 2026 facilitator, Miriam Webster, sits down with Patrick Marlborough in conversation. Patrick Marlborough is a writer, comedian, novelist, journalist, critic and musician based in Walyalup (Fremantle), WA. Their critically acclaimed novel, Nock Loose, was released in 2025 via Fremantle Press. They are regularly published in national and international publications, with their work appearing in VICE, Gawker, Slate, Rolling Stone, NME, The Guardian, The Saturday Paper, Junkee, Noisey, Meanjin, Overland, Crikey, The Lifted Brow, Cordite, Going Down Swinging, The Betoota Advocate, and "beloved other." Their novel A Horse Held at Gunpoint was shortlisted for the 2021 Fogarty Award, Nock Loose was shortlisted for the same award in 2023, and another novel, Wagger’s Champloo, was longlisted for the same in 2025. They edit The Yeah Nah Review on Substack, and co-host the podcast The Battler. Miriam Webster writes and teaches fiction, essays and poetry in and around Naarm/Melbourne. Her writing has appeared in publications like Aniko Magazine, Griffith Review, HEAT, Island, Overland, The Sydney Review of Books, The Suburban Review, swim meet lit mag and certain zines. Her first book, a collection of short stories called The Slip, was published by Aniko Press in 2025.
