Flashback Friday: Neighbors Helping Neighbors in Miramar - Commissioner Alexandra P. Davis

For this week’s Flashback Friday, I’m looking back at a meaningful initiative from my time serving as Vice Mayor of Miramar, where we brought volunteers together to support residents who needed a helping hand. Through this community program, our goal was to assist homeowners who were facing code violations but did not have the resources or ability to bring their homes into compliance on their own. With the help of dedicated volunteers, including city staff, we assisted residents with lawn care, gardening, painting, driveway improvements, and other essential repairs. One of the residents featured was a senior who had been caring for her disabled grandson while facing personal and financial challenges. Seeing volunteers come together to lift some of that burden was a powerful reminder of what it means to be a community. This initiative was about more than improving homes. It was about compassion, dignity, and neighbors helping neighbors. Moments like these continue to inspire my commitment to serving residents and making sure our communities remain places where people feel supported, seen, and valued.
