Rammstein – Sonne (What If It Was Punk?)

Hey Wastelanders! Sonne has been one of my favorite Rammstein songs ever since I first heard it on MTV2. It's also one of my favorite tracks from my favorite Rammstein album. Back in school, I used to listen to it during long programming sessions, so this song has been with me for a long time. I wanted to cover it for years, but making it faithful felt pointless—you already have Rammstein for that. So I started throwing different genres at it until punk clicked. Suddenly it sounded playful without losing what makes the song great. The chorus stayed recognizable, but everything around it became my own interpretation. The funny part? I finished recording the cover in less than a week... then ignored it for almost three months. I redecorated the studio, switched editing software, found every excuse not to shoot the video. When I finally did, filming took about 30 minutes and editing another 30. My first thought was: "That was it? Why didn't I just do this three months ago?" Maybe I just needed a break. Production Note: Recorded in under a week. Sat in my exports folder for about three months. Biggest production challenge: Pressing the Record button on the GoPro. Favorite moment: The easycore-style breakdowns in the choruses, especially the final chorus with the harsher vocals. Almost changed: I spent way too much time thinking about how to recreate the female vocals from the original. In the end, gang vocals felt much more natural for a punk version. I also planned POV instrument shots, but after reviewing the footage, I realized the performance already said everything it needed to.
