On April 8, the Faculty of International Relations held an Open Day for Undergraduate Students. The meeting with applicants was attended by A.A. Sushentsov, Dean of the Faculty of International Relations; A.I. Gladysheva, Deputy Dean for Language Training; S.S. Ageyev, Executive Secretary of the Admissions Committee; T.A. Erokhina, Leading Expert of the Academic and Contractual Work Sector; I.A. Istomin, Head of the Department of Applied Analysis of International Problems; and representatives of the language departments: I.A. Bogdanova, Head of the English Language Department No. 8; O.V. Principalova, Head of the German Language Department; E.A. Klochko, Lecturer in the Spanish Language Department; I.V. Artemyeva, Senior Lecturer in the French Language Department; and O.A. Maslovets, Head of the Chinese, Vietnamese, Burmese, Thai, Lao, and Khmer Languages ​​Department. Addressing prospective students, Dean of the Faculty A.A. Sushentsov discussed the prospects for working in international relations amid today's geopolitical challenges. The Dean emphasized the distinctive features of the Faculty of International Relations's training of international relations students compared to other programs, including those offered at other higher education institutions. The Faculty of International Relations prides itself on its own schools of foreign language teaching, its theoretical and practical foundation for teaching linguistic and cultural studies, a separate aspect of language training within the language disciplines, and its organization of classes in small language groups, which ensures high-quality instruction. Another distinctive feature is the systematic and chronological teaching of the history of international relations, which fosters a broad outlook and broad thinking in international relations professionals. A.A. Sushentsov also noted that the Faculty traditionally remains the main source of personnel for the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Graduates of the faculty also enter public service in federal executive bodies, the State Duma and Federation Council, the Presidential Administration, Russia's largest state corporations, media outlets, and NGOs. A.I. Gladysheva, Deputy Dean of the Faculty of International Relations, discussed the organization of language instruction and the process for assigning students to language groups scheduled to open in the 2024/25 academic year, including language combinations. Special attention was paid to the programs currently offered by the faculty and their distinctive features. In the 2024/25 academic year, the faculty will enroll in three bachelor's degree programs: "Diplomacy and Politics of Foreign Countries" (major in "Foreign Regional Studies"); "International Relations" (major in "International Relations"); "Big Data and Modeling of International Relations" (major in "International Relations"). I.A. Istomin, Head of the Department of Applied Analysis of International Problems, focused his presentation on the faculty's newest program, "Big Data and Modeling of International Relations," which first accepted applications in 2022. The program is designed to train analysts in the field of international relations with programming and big data structuring skills. It maintains and builds on the faculty's tradition of training international relations specialists, combining fundamental historical and general humanities training with the mandatory study of two foreign languages. Additionally, the program introduces students to quantitative data analysis methods, information management tools, formal modeling, and the specifics of digital diplomacy. Admission to the program is based on results from four Unified State Exams (their choice being Russian, a foreign language, history, social science, or geography). Representatives of the language departments, I.A. Bogdanova, O.V. Principalova, E.A. Klochko, I.V. Artemyeva, and O.A. Maslovets, discussed the specifics of the standard additional entrance examinations (SACE) for admission to the programs "Diplomacy and Politics of Foreign Countries" and "International Relations." The examinations are conducted in English, French, German, Spanish, and Chinese. Applicants are admitted to the examinations in these languages ​​upon presentation of the Unified State Exam (USE) score for the language in question. S.S. Ageyev and T.A. Erokhina discussed the application process for applicants. Applications from applicants in 2024 will be accepted electronically through their personal account. The priority system remains in effect: applicants are encouraged to independently rank their areas and programs, indicating in advance their mode of study—budgetary and/or contractual.
