An eminent physicist and an accomplished Rabindra Sangeet singer, Partha Ghose (born 5 February 1939) is one of the last few representatives of a generation that has lived through some of the eventful phases in the history of India. In his youth, he was a Xaverian, having studied under the guidance of legendary figures like Father Antoine and Father Fallon. A leading fast bowler in the junior cricket circuit, he trained under Kartick Bose and shared pitch with stars like ML Jaysimha, Durga Shankar Mukherjee and Rajinder Paul. After quitting cricket in favour of Physics, he studied first at Presidency College, Calcutta, and then at Imperial College, London, where his professor was Abdus Salam (later, a Nobel laureate). His life met an unexpected turn, when, in 1963, Professor Satyendranath Bose asked him to work with him for PhD. An ardent lover of music from a tender age, Ghose learned piano-accordion under the tutelage of V. Balsara, and while pursuing his PhD, he got his lessons of Rabindra Sangeet from Debabrata Biswas. After PhD, he joined Visva-Bharati as a lecturer. There also, he came in close association with figures like Santideb Ghosh, Kanika Bandyopadhyay, Ram Kinkar Beij and Sarbari Roy Chowdhury. In 1972, he was an invitee at 'The Physicist's Conception of Nature' at Trieste, organized in the honour of the theoretical physics great Paul Dirac. In the mid-1970s, he resigned his job at Santiniketan and joined as a Science Officer at British Council. During this phase as a science administrator, he also co-hosted 'Quest', a science quiz program for DD National, which went on to become highly popular among viewers. His last professional position was at SN Bose National Institute for Basic Sciences. He held several administrative positions at various groups, institutes and organizations, including Visva-Bharati Music Board, Satyajit Ray Film and Television Institute, Academy of Fine Arts and Calcutta Club. A Fellow of National Academy of Sciences, he received prestigious awards like National Award for the Best Science and Technology coverage in the Mass Media and Indira Gandhi Prize. #physicist #physicists #physics #physicswallah #documentaryvideos #documentary #doordarshan #ddbangla #researcheverything #satyenbose Link of EP2 - • Aamar Somoy | Dr. Partha Ghose | Physicist...
