MQTT in Industrial Networks

The Industrial Internet of Things (IIoT) requires efficient data exchange, but traditional protocols are inefficient for the many small, resource-constrained devices now common in industrial systems. MQTT, a lightweight publish/subscribe messaging protocol, addresses these challenges by decoupling senders and receivers using a broker, minimising overhead, and optimising for low-bandwidth, high-latency networks. MQTT supports scalability, varying levels of Quality of Service, and robust security features like TLS and SSL. Its wide adoption in industries demonstrates its effectiveness, making it a key tool for modern industrial automation networks.
