From Mocked To Iconic | Holden VL Group A SV - Brochure Series EP14

The Holden VL Group A SV Walkinshaw is one of the most controversial, misunderstood and collectible Australian performance cars ever built. When HSV unveiled its very first production model in 1988, enthusiasts weren’t quite sure what to make of it. The radical wind tunnel-developed body kit earned it the nickname “Plastic Pig”, but what many didn’t realise was that every spoiler, skirt and aero aid had a purpose. In this episode of the Brochure Series, we take a detailed look at this iconic Panorama Silver VL Walkinshaw, exploring the styling, engineering, performance and history that transformed it from showroom outcast to Australian motoring legend. We’ll examine the unique HSV-developed features, including the fuel-injected 5.0-litre V8, the first SV performance seats, luxury appointments, and the aerodynamic package that reduced drag while creating genuine downforce. You’ll also join me for a lap of Eastern Creek Raceway, where we experience the car in the environment it was ultimately designed for. Originally planned as a run of just 500 vehicles before production was increased to 750, the VL Group A SV remains one of the most significant cars in HSV history and one of the most desirable Holden performance cars ever built.
