Rhythms of Life: The Unsung Power of Music Therapy

Music Therapy—a wildly misunderstood clinical profession. People know how music affects their own moods, and assume any therapy using music must focus on mood disorders. But Music Therapy has power like few other interventions. The human brain is hard-wired to be receptive to music, so much so that even people in some forms of COMA respond to it! There is not just one “music center" in the brain. When the brain hears music it lights up language-, movement-, memory-, and vision-centers and more. Because neurons that fire together wire together, research shows that specific forms of music paired with physical, speech, and occupational therapies dramatically improves results. Parkinson’s patients regain normal gait when entrained with music interventions. Stroke patients can regain speech and mobility. People with autism find new ways to engage the world. "Rhythms of Life: The Unsung Power of Music Therapy" traces the development of this clinical profession from ancient practices to modern therapies. Therapists demonstrate the specialized techniques they use to help clients develop new abilities, maintain existing abilities in the face of degenerative diseases, and restore abilities lost to stroke or accident. When more universally understood, Music Therapy will transform medical and rehabilitation treatments. #SckreckKinowerks #RhythmsofLife #nmt
