06.15-16.2022: Meet Alvin Orgeron - Papa Sylvest Mirliton & Okra grower ~ Thibodaux, La

On a steamy day in mid- June 2022, I was visting my Aunt in Thibodaux, La and stumbled across “Butch’s Vegetable Stand” advertising Mirliton & Okra amongst other veggies. ~ I was very surprised to see mirliton for sale in the summer as mine only has grown in the fall! When I met him, I told him I’d like to interview him because I grow mirliton in Pensacola and when I told him that I was growing the “Papa Sylvest” variety you can imagine my excitement when he said “That’s my grandpa.”. I was so excited, that I was tongue tied and couldn’t think of great questions to ask… but our time together moved fluidly and I am still star struck as I edit the video of Mr. “Butch” Alvin Orgeron, who has been growing for the past 15 years.
