About the series: As an extension of the World Music Heritage Series conceived and produced by maestro Bhai Baldeep Singh for Anād Records, the YaarAnād Virtual Baithak Series aims to celebrate excellence in the field of music, arts, dance, theatre, and literature. The YaarAnād Virtual Baithak Series marks the 550th birth anniversary of Gurū Nānak Dēv, the first gurū of the Sikhs. Il maestro: Ustād Naseeruddin Saami is an exponent of north Indian classical vocal music from the Delhi Gharāna. Beyond khayāl, he is proficient in the sadra, thumrī, tarāna, and dādra genres. The son of Abdul Hameed Khan Saami, Naseeruddin was born into a family of classical vocalists. His ancestors founded the Delhi Gharāna over seven centuries ago. His forebear Miyan Samath was a disciple of Hazrat Amir Khusro, and another ancestor, Qutub Baksh or Ustād Tan Ras Khan was leading musician in the court of Bahadur Shah Zafar. Tan Ras Khan spent his final years in Hyderabad, where he was closely associated with the darbār or Mir Mehboob Ali Pasha. Saami possess two tambūrās of one-hundred-and-seventy-five years that belonged to his illustrious forefather. Naseeruddin began his training at age ten. He trained with his grand uncle, Sardar Khan, in Lahore. His studies with his uncle, Ustad Munshi Raziuddin, were of particular importance in his development. He was also mentored by Iftikhar Ahmad and Piaray Khan.
