About 25 minutes after the powerful earthquake struck Venezuela, the ground shook on the other side of the globe in Japan, almost unbelievably. Around 7:30 this morning, off the coast of Iwate Prefecture in northern Honshu. A CCTV camera monitoring the harbor shook violently, and then the earthquake alarm sounded. Inside the house, ceiling lights shook violently, and picture frames and decorative items on shelves fell to the floor. It occurred at the boundary between the Caribbean Plate and the South American Plate, and the two plates move in different horizontal directions. The depth of occurrence ranged from 10 km to 20 km. Even for earthquakes of the same magnitude, the impact transmitted is greater the shallower the location where they occur. In the case of Japan, it occurred within the so-called "Ring of Fire." It occurred as the heavy Pacific Plate subducted beneath the Eurasian Plate, and the depth reached 50 km. As such, these two earthquakes occurred at the boundaries of different plates separated by thousands of kilometers. For this reason, experts analyze that there is no connection between the two powerful earthquakes. At the tragic disaster site, helping hands are continuing to reach out even at this very moment. The United States, which had been imposing harsh sanctions just a few months ago, has also stepped forward. President Trump personally posted on social media, stating that he would willingly help Venezuela. The U.S. State Department plans to activate its disaster relief team and task force to immediately deploy rescue teams, medical resources, and humanitarian supplies. CNN also reported that this earthquake will serve as a test of how far the United States is willing to go to help Venezuela.
