Lakeland Ave Railroad Crossing, Lakewood OH

Southern signal: Two pairs of Safetran 12x20 inch lights. A Safetran gate mechanism and NEG gate lights. Northern signal: Two pairs of Safetran 12x20 inch lights. A Safetran gate mechanism. A General Signals type 2 electronic bell and NEG gate lights. Train line: NS Cleveland District Train: NS 178 (Eastbound Manifest) Locomotives NS 9746 (C40-9W) Narrow Font K5LA NS 8002 (ES44AC) NS 6347 (SD40E) I found out from a signal maintainer that there was an eastbound supposed to come around 5:00 so I headed down to Lakeland Ave. The train turned out to be a manifest with a Dash 9 leading and an ES44AC and SD40E trailing. These signals were installed in the 90s replacing a pair of gateless signals from the NKP. Lakewood is kind of a weird place for trains. There are about 29 to 33 railroad crossings in Lakewood and none of them are quiet zones. Trains have to blow their horn from Webb Rd to W. 110 St or vise versa. That’s why I call Lakewood the railroad crossing city of Ohio. These signals have stayed completely untouched since there installation. June 11, 2020
