Why Straw Netting is terrible for growing grass.
In this video Matt explains why straw netting is a poor choice when growing grass from seed in most situations. The only time straw blankets are appropriate, is on hillside. We use it for erosion control and keeping the seed in place. One flat ground, we don't need the erosion blanket because the seed won't move. If the seed and starter fertilizer is raked into the ground (under the soil), then straw and/or an erosion blanket is unnecessary.
