Adultery - Part 8: Vows Reflect God's Word (Pastor John Young Community Baptist Church Vicksburg MI)

The marital union is based primarily on vows and promises made within them based on the words a person speaks. Once the "Word of Promise" is given it must be fulfilled. This is the foundation for any contract that is made. We see that just as God fulfills his vows, so too He expects us to fulfill ours. 1. God's Word Fulfils What He Says: Isaiah 55:11 so shall my word be that goeth forth out of my mouth: it shall not return unto me void, but it shall accomplish that which I please, and it shall prosper in the thing whereto I sent it. (Hebrews 11:3, Romans 10:17) 2. God's Word is Honored: Psalm 15:4b ...but he honoureth them that fear the Lord. He that sweareth to his own hurt, and changeth not. 3. God's Word Cannot Be Broken: Numbers 30:2 If a man vow a vow unto the Lord, or swear an oath to bind his soul with a bond; he shall not break his word, he shall do according to all that proceedeth out of his mouth. [and the following verses] 4. God's Word Cannot Go Back: Ecclesiastes 5:4 When thou vowest a vow unto God, defer not to pay it; for he hath no pleasure in fools: pay that which thou hast vowed. (Judges 11:35 ...for I have opened my mouth unto the Lord, and I cannot go back.) 5. Man's words will justify or condemn us, nonmatter how small or frivolous: Matthew 12:34-37 O generation of vipers, how can ye, being evil, speak good things? for out of the abundance of the heart the mouth speaketh. 35 A good man out of the good treasure of the heart bringeth forth good things: and an evil man out of the evil treasure bringeth forth evil things. 36 But I say unto you, That every idle word that men shall speak, they shall give account thereof in the day of judgment. 37 For by thy words thou shalt be justified, and by thy words thou shalt be condemned. Romans 10:8-9 But what saith it? The word is nigh thee, even in thy mouth, and in thy heart: that is, the word of faith, which we preach; 9 that if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved.
