Shawn Marion: The UNDERAPPRECIATED STAR of the 7 Seconds or Less Phoenix Suns | FPP
Shawn Marion took the JuCo route before having a stellar year at UNLV where he prove to be a top prospect and one of the most versatile players in the 1999 NBA Draft. He would join a veteran suns team led by the backcourt 2000 duo of Jason Kidd and Penny Hardaway. Injuries to alot of the key suns of that era, lead to them being one of the biggest what ifs, but also gave Shawn Marion a chance to shine and we do exactly that as over the next 7 and a half seasons in Phoenix, he would establish himself as arguably the best two way player in the league and consistently place in the top 25 in the league for most statistical categories. He was at his best in Mike D'Antoni's 7 seconds or less offense with two time MVP Steve Nash and Perennial all star Amare Stoudemire. Marion would be the overlooked member of this trio, even by the Phoenix Suns organization as after not receiving a max contract extension, he would request a trade and bounce around to the Miami Heat then the Toronto Raptors for the next couple of seasons. Until he found a place in Dallas on a Mavericks team led by Dirk Nowitzki and Marion would be a key piece in the Mavs 2011 NBA Championship. He would spend another few years in Dallas before calling it a career after one year in Cleveland. He would retire in rare company due to his versatility as he would find himself high on some exclusive statistical lists with legends like Hakeem Olajuwon, Karl Malone and Kevin Garnett. But nowadays, Marion doesn't get the love he deserves for how great he was, especially at just 6'7". So that's why today's episode is going to take a look at the Matrix, Shawn Marion. https://www.basketball-reference.com/...
