Agniveer Recruitment Update | Permanent Recruitment May Increase in Armed Forces? | Agnipath Scheme

A major discussion is underway regarding the future of the Agniveer recruitment scheme as the first batch of Agniveers prepares to complete its four-year tenure this year. Under the current Agnipath Scheme, only up to 25% of Agniveers can be retained as regular personnel based on merit after completing four years of service. However, reports suggest that the Indian Navy may propose retaining nearly 75% of Agniveers, while the Indian Army and Indian Air Force are also considering increasing the retention rate to around 50%. As of now, no official change has been announced, and the existing policy of retaining up to 25% remains in effect. Agniveers completing their initial four-year service will be discharged, and those seeking to continue will be selected on merit for permanent enrollment.
