Exploring QLD

Herberton to Hughenden with our Van on the Back. We visit the Herberton Historic Village nestled in a valley way up on the Atherton Tablelands. In fact Herberton is the highest town in QLD and was best known for it's tin mining back in the 1800's. The village has been erected to perfection with many of the buildings relocated to the site and refurbished to their stunning original condition. Ravenshoe is a tranquil little town and definitely worth a visit. We stayed at the Railway Caravan Park right in town with an easy walking distance to famous Ravenshoe Highland Bakery. One night is not enough and later down the track we will spend more time exploring the area. We then made the treck to Hughenden via the Kennedy Development Road and although the conditions were fine at the time, this route can easily become impassable combined with towing a caravan and wet weather. There is currently a lot of work to seal the 100km or so dirt sections. Plenty of camping, glamping, cooking, campfires and enjoying our own backyard with our Van on the Back.
