First Time Off-Roading: Mistakes Were Made in Big Bear

🚙 My first time taking my stock Toyota Tacoma off-road — and it got real, fast. I've done plenty of camping, hiking, backpacking, and mountain biking, but off-roading was brand new to me. In this video, I take my 3rd gen Tacoma (no lift, no upgraded suspension) up to Holcomb Valley near Big Bear, California to see what these rocky trails are all about. What started as a "green" easy-rated trail quickly turned into rock gardens, three-wheel moments, and a lesson in why side steps don't belong on an off-road rig. I had to pull mine off mid-trail just to clear an obstacle. You'll see the whole thing — mistakes, recovery, and the moment we finally crawled through. After the trail, we posted up at Holcomb Valley Campground for the night — empty campground, great views, and a well-earned carne asada dinner. ⏱️ TIMESTAMPS 0:00 — First time off-roading, let's go 4:00 — Airing down for the first time 5:39 — First obstacle (the "feature") 8:00 — Side steps are killing me 8:29 — Removing the side steps mid-trail 10:24 — Crawling through the rock garden 14:10 — Holcomb Valley Campground setup 16:24 — Night camp & recap 17:06 — Heading out, next adventure 🔔 If you enjoyed coming along on my first off-road adventure, hit subscribe — I've got more camping, hiking, mountain biking, and outdoor exploration coming your way. 📍 Location Holcomb Valley Big Bear, California 🎥 Filmed With • GoPro Hero 13 • DJI Mini 4 Pro • iPhone 17 Pro Max #tacoma #offroad #bigbear #firsttimeoffroad #toyotatacoma #overlanding
