1942. Young soldier Alyosha Skvortsov accidentally knocks out two German tanks. The command is ready to recommend him for an order, but Alyosha asks for just one thing — to give him a few days of leave so he can see his mother and repair the roof on the house. The road home turns out to be longer than he expected. Along the way, he meets a one-legged front-line veteran, a young refugee named Shura, soldiers’ wives and mothers. And each of them leaves a mark on the soul of a simple village boy. He will manage to stop by home for only a few minutes. And then — back to the front again. From where he will never return. “Ballad of a Soldier” is Grigory Chukhrai’s masterpiece, one of the greatest films about the Great Patriotic War.
