Fighting the VFD Flicker! Final Challenge in Pioneer T-858 Restoration
In this video, I tackle the last remaining issue with my beautifully restored Pioneer T-858 cassette deck — the flickering VFD display. Despite applying a full range of restoration techniques, including: Power supply checks Resistor and capacitor replacements PCB cleaning and reflow Ground path improvements …the flicker issue still persists, although noticeably reduced. 🎯 The goal: Get this stunning golden-colored deck back to full glory with perfect visual performance to match its already excellent sound and mechanics. Stay with me and see what’s been done so far. If you’ve experienced similar VFD problems or have ideas, I’d love to hear your thoughts in the comments! 🔧 Deck background: The Pioneer T-858 is one of the last models with the cassette well on the left side, based on the CT-93, but in a different body and without Dolby S. A beautifully built and rare piece worth the effort.
