Due to its great depths, this vast lake has very few islands. There are only 27, and the largest is Olkhon, a land of myths and legends, a fairytale island majestically sprawling in the heart of Lake Baikal. Olkhon is the third-largest lake island in the world, with a total area of ​​approximately 730 square kilometers. Olkhon's existence is steeped in mysticism. This island is especially revered among shamans and Buddhists: here, the first Buryat shaman gained the ability to hear spirits and respond to them, and it is here, in the cave of Mys Burkhan, that the most revered deity on Lake Baikal, Ugute-noyon, the formidable master of Olkhon, has lived since time immemorial.
