【１日目】佐渡島で４日間路線バスの旅【自然と歴史の島】

Sado Island in Niigata Prefecture is one of the island's largest, even among its remote islands. Formed by repeated volcanic activity and uplift, Sado Island boasts towering cliffs along its coastline and scenic views of strangely shaped rock formations. It also boasts a long history of prosperity, having once supported the country's finances and economy through gold and silver mining. It also boasts a thriving town as a port of call for Kitamaebune ships. Even today, you can glimpse the townscape of those days and feel its traditions. Niigata is also known for its rice production. Rice cultivation is thriving in Sado, particularly in the central plains. The food served at every inn I stayed at was delicious. I spent four days traveling around this charming island by bus. This video is from Day 1. Traveling by bus offers many benefits, including the opportunity to leisurely enjoy the scenery and experience the kindness of the local people. Since you'll inevitably have to walk some of the time, it can be inconvenient in terms of stamina and time, but on the flip side, you'll likely see things you would miss if you were driving, or meet locals who will talk to you, making for a variety of discoveries and encounters. Sado Island's local buses also offer unlimited travel passes (1- to 3-day passes), which can be used to save you money on your local bus trip. *The local bus timetables and route maps are current as of September 2021.
