ep 21. 5 Kilometres to Fitzroy | Broome to Fitzroy Crossing | Big Lap at 83

Broome to Fitzroy Crossing brought flood country, security reminders, termite mounds, and a fuel gauge that got a bit too close for comfort. In Episode 21 of Big Lap at 83, Biscuit and I leave Broome and begin the long section towards Katherine — a stretch of country I had never travelled before, and one I had been looking forward to for a long time. This leg takes us from Broome to Fitzroy Crossing, through wide flood country, termite mounds, back-burning areas, long bridges, roadhouses, and the sort of open Kimberley road that reminds you just how big Australia really is. I also talk briefly about travelling with a camper trailer through this section, doing your own research, listening to local advice, and taking a few simple precautions without making a drama of it. There is a little fuel-gauge tension along the way too. I should have stopped earlier, but with the range dropping fast, Fitzroy Crossing appeared just in time. As always, this is not a travel guide — it is just an old bloke and his dog going for a drive, sharing what we see along the way. Thanks for coming along. Ooroo, Howie and Biscuit
