US Secretary of Defense Dick Cheney briefs the press on the beginning of ground operations in the Gulf War. Cheney is clear that because of the sensitive nature of the ground war, there will be limited information given to the press about details. Cheney indicates that there are reports that people are being executed in Kuwait City by the Iraqis. He says there are also reports that Saddam has ordered burning the Kuwaiti oil fields. He indicates that “It is not the objective or US policy to change the government in Iraq. If that happens then so be it.”
