Amtrak P42-DC 100 visits the West Coast! Northern California Trains in Alameda & Contra Costa County

In early April of 2026, I was fortunate enough to see some more Amtrak California trains as well as my first few catches of the California Zephyr which had some rare equities on each catch. First was P42-DC 100 which came to the West for the first time followed by Phase IV Unit 164 and a quadruple-header the day after. There is also a CSX SD70M on a BNSF Autorack at Hercules along with a GP60 on a Union Pacific train back in Livermore. Like usual, there are Capitol Corridor and San Joaquins (or Gold Runner) trains running down Union Pacific owned tracks between Oakland and Martinez with a few trains at Fremont and Hayward.
