How does Social Security Define Sitting, Standing and Walking

You can expect your #socialsecuritydisability judge to ask you how long you can sit, stand or walk. The judge may ask you how long you can do these activities at one time, and how long you can do them in total during the day. As I discuss in this video, your understanding of what it means to sit, stand and walk may be very different than what these terms mean to #SocialSecurity. In your disability claim, the only issue is whether you can reliably perform simple work-like activities. So when the judge asks you about sitting, standing and walking, he/she is really asking how long you can sit, stand and walk in a typical work environment. You do not see recliners in a #workenvironment, nor can you typically use canes or walkers, nor can you lean against something when trying to work. Therefore, when you prepare for your hearing, practice answering these questions accurately. Sitting in a #recliner with your feet up is not the same thing as sitting in a business chair. Walking slowly on a flat surface next to a wall is not the same thing as walking across a bumpy granite floor in a warehouse.
