A day in the life of Matata, Great Ape Trust bonobo matriarch
In matriarchal bonobo society, females rule. Among the six bonobos living at Great Ape Trust, the undisputed dominant member is Matata, a 40-year-old wild-born bonobo who lives a life of dignity with her children and grandchildren. She is regarded fondly by her human friends, who credit her innate cleverness and intelligence while noting that nothing occurs in the bonobos daily lives that Matata isnt aware of.
