Mon Ami At The Orange Shipyard
Mon Ami at the Orange Shipyard” was inspired by the geography and industrial landscape of Orange, Texas — the shipyards along the Sabine River, the welders’ yards, and the Gulf‑bound vessels that shaped the town’s identity. As I researched Cajun Corridor, Orange stood out as a place where Louisiana families blended their traditions with shipbuilding life, carrying their language, foodways, and music into a new environment. I imagined this song with a Cajun country swing, mixing fiddle, accordion, and shipyard rhythm to reflect the daily movement of the docks. The lyrics draw on the towns and parishes many workers came from — St. Landry, Avoyelles, Thibodaux — and the way their culture settled into Orange’s industrial geography.
