There are several expressions frequently used by patients to describe blurred vision, such as "blurred vision," "distorted vision," "blurred eyes," "shaky or trembling vision," "fuzzy vision," "cloudy or cloudy vision," "loss of vision," among others, meaning a lack of clarity of vision or "altered vision." Among vision abnormalities, blurred vision is one of the most common symptoms due to the existence of many eye problems that can cause decreased visual acuity. One of the symptoms sometimes associated with blurred or "foggy" vision is headache, which is very common in the presence of refractive errors, but can occur with other pathologies. Dizziness and other disorders, although less common, are also possible. Blurred or cloudy vision is a relatively common symptom, especially in people with vision problems, such as nearsightedness or farsightedness. In these cases, it usually indicates that glasses may need to be corrected, and therefore, it is important to schedule an appointment with an ophthalmologist. However, when blurred vision appears suddenly, while it can also be the first sign of a developing vision problem, it can also be a symptom of other, more serious problems such as conjunctivitis, cataracts, or even diabetes. Blurred vision can be a complication of diabetes called retinopathy, which occurs due to the degradation of the retina, blood vessels, and nerves. This usually only occurs in people who do not receive adequate treatment for the disease and, as a result, have consistently high blood sugar levels. If diabetes remains uncontrolled, there may even be a risk of blindness. Although less common, high blood pressure can also result in blurred vision. This happens because, just as in cases of stroke or heart attack, high blood pressure can also lead to clogged blood vessels in the eye, affecting vision. This problem usually does not cause any pain, but it is common for a person to wake up with blurry vision, especially in one eye only. If you suspect one of these vision problems, you should consult an ophthalmologist to confirm the diagnosis and begin the most appropriate treatment, which may include the use of specific eye drops or surgery.
