Gloria Coates: Lunar Loops (1987)

Gloria Coates (*1938): Lunar Loops, per due chitarre (1987) -- Munich Guitar Duo -- "Lunar Loops", composed in 1987, was commissioned for the opening of the 1989 Munich Guitar Festival by the founders, the Munich Guitar Duo, Ruth Fischer and Stephen Stiens. Althoughs "Lunar Loops" was written for two traditionally tuned guitars, during the piece the strings are retuned while playing to 12 differently tuned open strings. The strings are then played in microtone -- harmonics which gradually introduce a cascade of multiple clusters which climax at the apex of this mirror canon. Eventually the strings are returned (while playing) to the original guitar string tuning. This is a recording of a live performance of the Munich Guitar Duo in New York City on the American Festival of Microtonal Music on April 30, 1993, at Columbia University. -- Gloria Coates ---- The music published in our channel is exclusively dedicated to divulgation purposes and not commercial.
