Cantillation Overview, Part 1
This video is meant to be an introduction for those who don't know anything about the trope system or how it works. Using examples drawn from a familiar Torah text, this video demonstrates the beginnings of a systematic method for teaching Torah reading (chanting) to anyone who already has a basic knowledge of Hebrew reading. The reason I made this video is that I have yet to find any published materials that explain these concepts in a way that my students can understand. The same issues come up over and over again in my teaching, both with children and adults, and I felt it was essential to create a resource that would address my students' issues in a thorough and understandable way. I try to explain the trope in this series of videos the way I would have wanted someone to explain it to me. After watching, if something isn't clear or you feel a different presentation would have been better, please let me know. I welcome your feedback as I intend to continue to refine this method as time goes on. Thanks for watching. You can reach me at [email protected].
